T-ST 1143 - Movement Studio 1
This course is intended to help the student get to know his/her physical self, increase strength, freedom and openness of their body and to develop rhythmic, spatial and physical clarity. It is an introduction to the basic fundamentals of movement for the actor. Your work in this class is preparatory for the continuation of the acting student’s training. This is a course based in embodied learning. Embodied learning can be defined as that which we learn through the experience of doing tasks with the body- through moving, breathing, and sensing. These embodied experiences are the source and context for thinking, speaking and imagining and serve as a foundation for various modes of actor training. You will work physically in class as well as pursue creative assignments, readings and journals outside of class. The class begins with explorations of the simplest of movements- breath and ends with the complex experience of creating and executing movement based performance.
