T-PR 2941 - Theater and Community Arts Practice
Theater and Community Engagement introduces modes of how community dialogue is shaped through a theatrical lense. Our coursework will cover many tools used by theater companies to address local to global social issues. We will begin with historical models and move into more current ways theater can be at the center of practices for decolonizing spaces in service towards greater community engagement. Moving between theory and practice, we will learn and implement tools to facilitate community based projects. Focusing on design, values and process, students will question as they develop a toolbox to engage community as a theatre artist and facilitator. Students should be ready to take on reading, writing and experiential components of the coursework.
