T-LT 5303 - Graduate Musical Theater History Seminar
This course will provide students with a thorough overview of the history of American musical theater. The emphasis will be on the broad themes that have influenced the genre (e.g. the meaningful integration of song and dance, how art reflects its time, the challenges of reviving historical musicals, etc.). Students will begin with a solid foundation in past works and their creators, then progress toward more modern-day shows, with an eye toward how those shows reflect the trends and themes of the past, as well as how shows brought new innovation and vibrancy to the form.
