M-LT 71158 - Applied Acoustics
Over the course of the semester we will design and build instruments from these four families: Idiophone, Membranophone, Chordophone, and Aerophone with the aim of facilitating a physical understanding of how acoustics function. We will use spectrograph, oscilloscope, and strobe tuner apps to test our instruments power spectra, wave forms and tuning accuracy. Class time will be split between lectures and working in the school’s main stage production shop where you will fabricate your instruments. No prior experience with power tools is needed and you get to keep all of your instrument builds. There is a $50 lab fee to cover the cost of materials.
