M-LT 71141 - Beethoven Symphonies
The symphonies of Beethoven continue to be at the heart of the symphonic repertoire, and a standard against which later symphonies are measured. This seminar will cover all nine symphonies, with particular focus on Symphonies 3, 5, 6, and 9. By analyzing all nine, we will gain a sense of the developmental trajectory from the First to the Ninth, and of the extent of Beethoven’s innovations in the genre. Additionally, we will consider each symphony in its relevant cultural frameworks.
