M-LT 71131 - Opera Through Mozart
This course surveys music and theatre trends and traditions that influenced Mozart’s activity as an opera composer. Topics of consideration include developments in genre, changing taste in singers and singing, and cross-pollination of opera and instrumental music. Works include operas of Handel and Gluck, among others, and of course, several of Mozart, including Le Nozze di Figaro, La Clemenza di Tito, and Don Giovanni.
