M-LT 71130 - Harry Partch and Ben Johnston
These two composers have arguably defined the field of just intonation and the discourse around it. Though Johnston came to JI through working with Partch, the two have focused on distinct areas – Partch through drama and vocal works and invented/adapted instruments with idiosyncratic instrument-specific notation and Johnston through standard instruments and a notation that expands on traditional staff notation. Their theoretical writings and music are the jumping-off point for most microtonal and just-intonation composers who have followed.
