M-LT 71114 - Contemporary Compositional Techs 2
Understanding through imitation is theme of Contemporary Composition Techniques II. Seven, two week modules are covered. The first week of each module is spent listening to, analyzing, and understanding the module's focus. The second week is spent composing a short work that successfully imitates the technique within the style of composers studied. The 7 modules in Contemporary Techniques II are: graphic and non standard notation, extended techniques 1 (winds and brass), extended techniques 2 (percussion, piano and strings), chance and improvisation, minimalism, spectralism, and music concrete. Prerequisites for Contemporary Techniques II: Harmony and Counterpoint 4, Ear Training 4, Graduate Remedial Ear Training, Graduate Remedial Harmony. Contemporary Techniques I is not a prerequisite for this course.
