M-LT 5053 - Special Needs and the Gifted Child
Methods of identifying children with special gifts and talents in the arts, and children with disabilities and strategies for adapting or enhancing music lessons to meet the needs of both the gifted and the needy. Identification of the emotional, physical, and intellectual characteristics of gifted and special needs students. Exploration of techniques for establishing special programs for special children, as well as ideas for including special children in existing music programs. Exposure to legal issues related to special needs children and special education. Offered summers through the Institute for Music Education. 45 hours; 3 credits
