M-EN 0791 - Opera Workshop
Through interactive discussion, exercises, experiential projects, and the preparation and performance of appropriate arias and scenes, students will expand their knowledge base and experience practical application of the concepts and techniques they learn. The focus of the course will be on the development of the singing actor’s physical and emotional “instruments,” the coordination of these with their vocalism, and an increased understanding of the stylistic elements inherent to opera. Specific areas of study will include: the nature of energy and its physical and emotional application for the performer, theatrical elements and how they affect character development and performance practice, making active choices as a performer, and balancing core truth with theatricality and stylistic considerations.
