D-ST 72710 - Topics in Cont. Dance: Limón Technique
This course will delve into an advanced study of core principles and movement philosophies of Mexican born choreographer José Limón. The course will explore ideas and strengthen techniques through the Limón principals: Fall and rebound/recovery, opposition in the body, suspension, musicality, succession, and isolation are some of the ideas that will be the catalyst for developing strong bodies and minds with-in this style. Through warm up, phrase work, and across the floor combinations students will begin to master their bodies and gain strength, flexibility and a heightened awareness for alignment. A great emphasis will be placed on artistic expression and a willingness to find strength in vulnerability. This class will challenge students and stretch them beyond their own personal limits.
